Surely regulatory compliance shouldn't be this difficult?
But how did we end up here? It all started in Turku, Finland in 2017, when an auditor (let's call him Bengt) first heard about anti-money laundering legislation. Bengt was puzzled: How on earth do you keep up with all these regulations? And is there an easier way to do this?
He rushed to a friend, who gathered a small team. Soon, two lawyers, one businessman and one systems developer sat around the same table, determined to solve Bengt's problem. That's how DOKS was born. Years of hard work followed.
(About the name: We'd love to say it carries deep symbolism. The truth? After extensive deliberation, nothing better came to mind. Yet it turned out to be perfect: short, distinctive, and now synonymous with pioneering RegTech.)
From startup spirit to industry leader
Let's jump to 2021. A client of Alma's B2B services had mentioned they were still handling their AML processes on paper. Paper! Practically impossible in today's world. Alma immediately understood that DOKS was the solution, and so began a partnership that deepened over the years. In 2025, DOKS became fully part of Alma.
Alma's history stretches back to 1849, making it one of Finland's oldest and most respected media groups. Since the 1990s, Alma has successfully transformed from a traditional newspaper publisher into a diverse provider of digital services. This long history of adaptation shows that we know how to evolve when the world changes, and that we will continue to be a stable and professional partner.
